PADI Emergency First Response (EFR)

Overview

First Response Primary Care (CPR) and Secondary Care (First Aid) The EFR course covers the essential skills and knowledge needed to effectively and confidently respond to most medical emergencies both in water and outside water. This is an essential part of your learning journey to become a professional diver starting with Divemaster. The EFR course exposes participants to practice Primary and Secondary First Aid procedures.

Section One provides you with foundational information specific to Emergency Responder care. By reading the background information in this section, you’ll better understand why your role as an Emergency First Responder is so important to those who need emergency care.

Section Two applies to the skill development portion of your EFR course. Under your Emergency First Response Instructor’s supervision, you’ll use this step-by-step workbook to guide you through a practice session for each of the course’s skills.

Section Three provides a quick emergency care reference to use after you complete your Emergency First Response course.

1. Primary Care - CPR for Adults, Children, and Infants.
2. Assembling a First Aid Kit.
3. Injury First Aid - Dislocations, fractures, cuts, scrapes, bruises, dental injuries, strains, sprains, eye injuries, and electrical injuries.
4. Temperature-Related Injuries - Burns, hypothermia, frostbite, heatstroke, and heat exhaustion.
5. Illness First Aid - Heart attack, stroke, diabetic problems, seizures, allergic reactions, poisoning, venomous bites, and stings.
